I am blessed to be the mother of six beautiful children (Hila, Liat, Asaf, Udi, Roey and Michael), and grandma to Tifferet and Tomer. I am married to Roni, and generally try to be a good person and do the next right thing in the eyes of Gd.
I am a midwife by profession, and have been for the past 22 years. During this past year I went into business, designing and manufacturing modest swimwear. I am completely new to the world of business, fashion and textiles. So it is no surprise that I am often asked, “What is the connection between Midwifery and modest bathing suits?” The fact is that there is a connection, so I’d like to answer it for the curious among you.
I believe that midwifery is about helping a woman to connect with her deepest strengths, usually untapped, especially for a first time mother. It is about helping her to make the connection between herself and her body, her femininity, her “woman-ness” so to speak and to become empowered in the process. It is about helping her to find joy and strength in her body and in being pregnant and in giving birth and in becoming a mother. It is about connecting to the extraordinary and unique strengths within her while confronting a huge life experience – birth. Some women are able to connect using an inner key that they have always been aware of, while others discover it now. For some women the key is a spiritual one, and they are able to lock into their strengths through the strength of God. For others, the connection to empowerment is a mind-body connection that stimulates a personal growth. The midwife helps a woman give birth to her baby as safely and as easily as possible. She also tries to facilitate the mother’s personal spiritual and emotional growth as a woman, a mother, and a human being.
Modest swimwear is about swimming and exercising and laughing and loving and embracing life. It is about doing what you love doing and doing it in your own way. It is about being who you are and finding your inner strength to be who you are. It is about maintaining your values and principles even when they seem to be unpopular or out of style. It is about understanding who you are through your spiritual connection and having faith in yourself and confidence to live your life the way you want to live it the best way you know how. It is about finding the power with in you and the Power about you and growing as a woman and a human being.
